To begin using your 1&1 domain with your HomeInspectorSites hosted web site, it is necessary to make changes to your domain settings to direct traffic to the HomeInspectorSites servers.
Before you begin this process, make sure that you have your current user name and password for your 1&1 account. If you are unsure of your current information, you can contact 1&1 techincal support at (866) 991-2631 or through their web site: https://help.1and1.com/contact
To make the changes, follow these steps:
- Go to the 1&1 web site ( https://www.1and1.com ).
- Log in to your 1&1 Control Panel and select the relevant package.
- Once logged in, click Manage Domains from the Domains panel.
- Click the arrow icon next to the domain name in question to display an options menu.
- Select Edit DNS Settings from the Domain Settings section of the options menu.
- Select Other IP address and enter 67.225.130.208. Each number separated by a dot(.) should be typed into a separate text box.
- Click the Save button when finished.
- A confirmation page is displayed informing you that the changes will be updated accordingly. As with all DNS changes, it may take up to one hour before the changes are recognized by all servers/computers on the Internet.
You will also need to change the setting to allow the www portion of your domain name to redirect to your web site. To make the changes, follow these steps:
- Go to the 1&1 web site ( https://www.1and1.com ).
- Log in to your 1&1 Control Panel and select the relevant package.
- Once logged in, click Manage Domains from the Domains panel.
- Locate the domain that contains the subdomain you want to modify and then click Manage Subdomains.
- Check the box next to the subdomain to select it. Then click Edit DNS Settings from the Subdomain Settings drop-down menu.
- Select the CNAME option.
- Enter www in the Alias text box.
- Check the box to acknowledge that you are aware all current DNS settings will be disabled by using a CNAME instead.
- Click the Save button to continue.
It may take up to 24-48 hours for the changes to propogate to our servers. You will be able to tell when the changes have been made when you go to your domain name in your web browser, and you are taken to the HomeInspectorSites.com site (though not necessarily your site) instead of the previous site or the 1&1 landing page on your domain.
Once your domain is pointing at the HomeInspectorSites.com site, you can then change the setting in your site to migrate from the temporary HomeInspectorSites.com domain to your permanent domain name. Instructions for making these changes to the settings on your site can be found here:
