Introduction
It is possible to transfer your Home Inspector Pro (HIP) from Windows to Mac OS X, as the files are 100% compatible between both platforms.
Note: If you don't have Home Inspector Pro on the new machine yet download it from our website and install it first. You can find this here.
Note: Before you begin this process, make sure the Home Inspector Pro program is closed.
Copy the Files to your Flash Drive:
Step 1: On your existing machine, go to the Start Menu > Computer. Double-click Local Disk (C:), then double-click Program File (x86).
Step 2: Find and double-click the Home Inspector Pro folder. If you want your inspections, look in the Client Data folder, templates and contacts are in Data, PDF's are in Client Reports. Any PDF documents that you have inserted into your Template will be in the Documents Vault folder. Also if you have created any custom HDF Documents (usually the section explanation text), you’ll find this in Data/Documents/.
Step 3: In this folder, C:\Program Files (x86)\Home Inspector Pro\ find the files or folders you want. Highlight the files or folders you want, right-click on one and click Copy.
Step 4: Put your Flash Drive into the computer. After a second, you should be given an option to Open or View Files on the Device. Click this option. If not you’ll need to follow the same process as Step 1 except opening the flashdrive’s location to open the flash drive.
Step 5: In the window that opens, right-click and Paste your files onto the device. Once this is complete, remove the device from the desktop and plug it into the new computer.
Install Home Inspector Pro on your Mac:
Note: If you don't have Home Inspector Pro on the new machine yet download it from our website and install it first. You can find this here.
Copy Data from the Flash Drive to the Mac:
Step 1: Plug the flash drive (or external hard drive) into the USB port on the Mac. The drive should then pop-up in a window.
Step 2: Highlight the Data folder.
Step 3: Go to the Edit menu at the top of the screen.
Step 4: Click 'Copy 1 Item'.
Step 5: Click on Documents on the left side of the screen.
Step 6: Double-click on the Home Inspector Pro folder.
Step 7: Go to the Edit menu at the top of the screen. Click on 'Paste Item'. If prompted to 'Replace Files', click to 'Replace Files'.
Step 8: Once complete, you can go to the Applications folder, then launch the 'Home Inspector Pro.app'. Your Home Inspector Pro installation should then launch. Or click the icon that is on the Dock bar.
If you would like to bring across previous inspections and reports from the old machine to the new, follow the same steps above, but copy the 'Client Data' folder and the 'Client Reports' folder to the flash drive, then paste it into the Home Inspector Pro folder.
Note: You do not need to copy over the Lib folder as this is internal to the software.
